Why Pre Employment Screening Is Important

By Jayne Rutledge

Employers need to screen workers before they hire them to ensure that they are employing the right candidates. It is for the benefit of the business and the workforce to have candidates who are qualified, and disciplined. Businesses need to realize that they have an obligation to protect the workforce from bad employees. With the help of pre employment screening services, employers can protect their workers, reduce liabilities, promote good image, and minimize employee turnover.

Most problems inherent in businesses start from the hiring process. When an employer makes a mistake right from the start of hiring workers, then this could turn out to be very costly. Businesses with irresponsible bad employees incur a lot of losses in different ways. Workers who do not care about their duties can plunge a business into trouble.

Those workers may indulge in drugs and alcohol use. Driving a vehicle while drunk, or operating a machine when under the influence of alcohol can cause serious injuries. When accidents are caused by an employee in his or her course of duty, the employer bears the responsibility. At times, the screening process may have loopholes, which may not detect such bad behavior within a worker.

Hiring such workers can risk the other workforce from bad behaviors. When you hire an employee, you are making an investment. You spend a lot of money through the hiring, payment of service, training, insurance, and other costs. If you invest your time and money to an incompetent and bad employee, it means that the business is going at a loss.

Moreover, increased turnover may occur when employees performing poorly are fired. The workers who perform poorly or those involved in bad behaviors are often fired by the employer. However, firing has some repercussions. If there is increased employee turnover, it means that the business is suffering from losses. Employing new workers is a costly undertaking.

Increased turnover derails the growth of a business. It can affect the productivity, service delivery, revenue, and the image of a business. Increased turnover occurs when there are many cases of poor performance by workers. It also occurs when bad employees are sent packing or dismissed. Employees who perform poorly have no business remaining in a company, and they need to be shown the door.

Other workers indulge in bullying activities while others are aggressive, and they may cause accidents or assault their colleagues. It is essential that you have workers who are disciplined and do not have records of wrongdoings or criminal indulgences. Productivity is very important when it comes to the survival of a company. A business should increase its productivity in order to remain competitive in the market.

If you employ a candidate who has been implicated in wrongdoings such as theft, then you are welcoming a liability in your company. A pre employment screening ensures the candidates being hired are not only qualified but also responsible persons who can take the company to a higher level in terms of image, productivity, and growth. Such checking of the suitability of workers before being hired minimizes problems in businesses.
